Connections

In our discussion today, you made some connections between the text Mother Tongue by Amy Tan and the concepts from our study of language and literature.

Here is collaborative thinking product from today:

Connections between significant ideas from Amy Tan's "Mother Tongue" and our historical and cultural thinking. May 12, 2014 by Class of 2016.

Our next task is to set up our essential agreements on “What makes a good discussion?” in preparation for developing critical thinking within Socratic Seminars. Please prepare and bring your ideas and communicate these tomorrow.

Today we established some initial goals for the Socratic Seminars consisting of the following:

  • Rehearse cognitive and affective skills for critical thinking and communication
  • Honor others’ ideas
  • Communicate effectively by speaking clearly and listening actively
  • Support others’ and our own learning by actively preparing and participating

We will be adding to these goals through our essential agreements tomorrow.
